Gas Exporters Urge EU to Relax Methane Rules Over Energy Security Concerns on June 24

According to Jin10, major gas exporters including the U.S., Qatar, Nigeria, and Algeria urged the European Union on June 24 to relax proposed methane emission regulations, warning the rules could threaten Europe's energy security. The countries called for a "pragmatic approach" to clarify and revise regulatory details to ensure they can continue supplying oil and gas to meet EU demand.

The push comes as the EU faces pressure to lower elevated energy prices and plans to increase natural gas imports from the U.S. amid Middle East tensions. European governments plan to discuss the methane regulation's impact on energy security during an EU energy ministers meeting later this week.
