Google, Microsoft, and xAI Join US Commerce Department AI Review Program on May 5

According to Bloomberg, Google, Microsoft, and xAI agreed on May 5 to let the US Commerce Department review their AI models before public release. The move expands a federal testing program tied to Trump’s AI policy. They join OpenAI and Anthropic, whose models the Commerce Department has reviewed since 2024 through its Center for AI Standards and Innovation. The office has completed more than 40 evaluations, including unreleased systems.
