Israel, U.S., and Lebanon Sign Framework Agreement on June 26; Israel to Maintain Military Presence in Southern Lebanon

According to Israeli official disclosures on June 26, the U.S., Israel, and Lebanon signed a trilateral framework agreement during talks, with representatives signing the accord that evening. Under the agreement, Israel will maintain military deployment in southern Lebanon's unilaterally designated 'security zone' until Hezbollah disarms. The Israeli Defense Forces will retain operational freedom within the entire 'security zone' and can take action to eliminate potential security threats at any time. Additionally, Israel and Lebanon agreed that Israel will gradually withdraw from two regions outside the 'security zone,' with Lebanon's government military taking control of those areas.
