Japan's Ruling Party Considers Zero Food Consumption Tax on June 15

According to Jin10, on June 15, Japan's ruling party continues discussions on whether to reduce the food consumption tax to zero, having largely shelved a proposal to lower it to 1%. Shoji Yamagiwa, chair of the Liberal Democratic Party's tax committee subgroup, stated on Monday: "The discussions I just heard remain centered on the zero rate. The 1% option has not been mentioned." The government estimated that eliminating the food consumption tax would result in approximately 5 trillion yen in annual revenue loss.
