According to The Block, on June 24, New York man Noman Saleem was sentenced to 15 months in prison plus three years of supervised release for impersonating cryptocurrency influencers and defrauding victims. Saleem admitted to creating fake Telegram accounts mimicking known crypto personalities, luring thousands into his channels and charging for premium VIP sub-channels. He deceived victims by promising staking rewards, persuading them to transfer digital assets to wallets under his control, but never conducted actual staking operations before cutting off contact. The fraud totaled over $1.4 million, with victims including at least one Maryland resident. U.S. authorities have recovered most of the stolen funds.
