OpenAI Subpoenaed by Multi-State Attorneys General on Friday Amid IPO Push

According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI received a subpoena on Friday, June 12, led by the New York State Attorney General's office representing multiple states investigating the AI company. The subpoena requests documents covering advertising practices, user engagement and retention, consumer and health data handling, activities involving minors and seniors, deep learning models, model behavior patterns, and company policies.

The move adds legal pressure as OpenAI moves toward its initial public offering, having secretly filed IPO documents with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission earlier this month. OpenAI's spokesperson said the company takes the attorneys general's concerns seriously and will engage constructively with their offices.
