Senate Cloture Vote on Warsh's Fed Chair Nomination Set for Monday, May 11

GateNews

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on Kevin Warsh’s nomination to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors on Monday, May 11, at 5:30 p.m. ET. Republicans hold 53 seats and need a simple majority for confirmation, with potential bipartisan support from Senator John Fetterman (D-PA). The Senate Banking Committee advanced Warsh’s nomination on April 29 in a 13–11 party-line vote.

In a separate development, Jerome Powell announced he will remain on the Fed’s Board of Governors after stepping down as chair on May 15. Powell said he plans to maintain a low profile as a governor, noting that Warsh will become chair once confirmed. Powell’s board seat extends through 2028; his decision to stay is unusual, as most Fed chairs have departed entirely when their terms concluded.
