According to the Financial Services Commission (FSC) on May 15, South Korea announced plans to develop a tokenization roadmap for standardized assets, including stocks, bonds, and money market funds (MMFs). This marks the FSC's first official mention of tokenizing traditional financial assets, shifting focus from unstructured securities.
Globally, the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization market reached approximately $33.7 billion as of May 17, according to RWA.xyz, surging 47% over the past five months. The U.S. leads the sector, with tokenized U.S. Treasury and MMF products comprising around $15.5 billion of the total market value. The SEC has accelerated policy support, including approving Nasdaq's rule changes in March and planning to issue an innovation exemption framework in May, enabling tokenized securities issuance without listed company consent.
