State-backed Chinese Investors Add Stakes in DeepSeek, Moonshot AI in Latest Funding Push

According to China Daily, state-backed investors have taken stakes in major Chinese AI startups including Beijing-based Moonshot AI and DeepSeek in recent funding rounds. Moonshot AI, maker of the Kimi chatbot, added investors including the Beijing AI Industry Investment Fund, Shanghai Guosheng Group, and China Mobile, with Meituan's venture arm leading the latest round. Separately, DeepSeek is seeking over 50 billion yuan (US$7.35 billion) in funding at a valuation exceeding 350 billion yuan (US$51.4 billion), with China's state-backed semiconductor fund in talks to lead.
