U.S. Explores Nuclear Power Plants in 3.2 Billion Acres of Federal Waters

On July 22, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced a partnership to explore deploying underwater nuclear power stations in federal waters under U.S. government management.

The agreement aims to assess the feasibility and conditions for implementing this technology responsibly. BOEM noted that no commercial nuclear power plants have been approved or are currently planned within federal waters, but the partnership will evaluate how and when such projects could be developed.
