U.S. Government Halts Anthropic's Fable 5, Mythos 5 Overseas Access Ahead of IPO

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government has ordered Anthropic to suspend overseas access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models on national security grounds, potentially affecting the company's year-end initial public offering (IPO) plans. The restriction follows Amazon's discovery that the models could be manipulated through specific prompts to provide information potentially useful for cyberattacks, prompting White House and security officials to formally review the issue. Anthropic stated it is complying with the directive but noted the vulnerability found is relatively basic and similar capabilities exist in other publicly available AI models.
