US House Clears Housing Bill with Fed CBDC Ban Through 2030, Senate Passed 85-5

According to American Banker, the US House this week cleared a housing package that includes a Federal Reserve CBDC ban, sending the legislation to President Trump's desk. The Senate passed the bill 85-5 on June 22, with lawmakers restricting any retail digital dollar issuance by the Federal Reserve until December 31, 2030. The legislation states the central bank may not issue a digital currency "directly or indirectly through a financial institution or other intermediary." Stablecoins remain exempt, preserving private dollar-pegged tokens as the primary digital-dollar vehicle in the United States through the ban period.
