Waymo Recalls 3,900 Robotaxis Over Freeway Construction Zone Software Flaw

According to CNBC, Waymo announced on Thursday that it is recalling approximately 3,900 Robotaxis in the United States following software issues that caused several autonomous vehicles to enter freeway construction zones. The recall was filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and marks Waymo's second recall within a month.

The recall stems from 13 known incidents in which Waymo vehicles drove into construction areas on Phoenix freeways or entered active construction lanes on San Francisco highways. Waymo stated that the company has already limited Robotaxi operations on highways while developing a software fix and has voluntarily submitted a recall request to regulators.
