Tesla Robotaxi Safety Data Shows 90% Lower Accident Rate Than Human Drivers, Says Bank of America

According to Barron's, recent safety data presented by Bank of America Securities analyst Alexander Perry indicates that Tesla Robotaxi vehicles have a significantly lower accident rate than human-driven cars. Tesla reported one reportable accident per 101,000 miles driven, while Alphabet's Waymo reported one per 108,000 miles. In comparison, human drivers experience one serious accident per 1.9 million miles on average—meaning autonomous vehicles are approximately 90% safer, Perry noted. Tesla has deployed Robotaxi services across four U.S. cities, with a fleet of 69 vehicles as of June 16, according to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles data. The safety performance represents a major advantage for Tesla as it expands its autonomous driving operations.
