El Niño Fuels Record-Breaking Heat Wave Across Europe This Weekend

According to William Henneberg, a meteorologist at Commodity Weather Group, El Niño is driving record-breaking heat waves across Europe this weekend, with France facing unprecedented high temperatures. A high-pressure system over the continental European region compresses descending air toward the surface, raising temperatures. Henneberg noted that the developing strong El Niño and a cold water mass in the North Atlantic further strengthen this pattern, helping form jet stream troughs over the ocean and pushing the high-pressure system toward Europe. He added that this weather pattern is "very rare" and may persist, keeping temperatures above normal levels through early July.
