EU Drafts Digital Fairness Act Targeting TikTok, Meta, X on May 12

GateNews

According to Reuters, on May 12 in Copenhagen, the European Commission is drafting a Digital Fairness Act to curb addictive social media design and strengthen child protections on TikTok, Meta, and X. The proposal, due later in 2026, would ban manipulative features, address influencer marketing, and may establish a minimum age for platform access. The move expands the EU’s Digital Services Act, under which the Commission is already investigating these platforms over risks tied to harmful content, age checks, and features such as endless scroll and autoplay.
