According to Cointelegraph, SEC Chair Paul Atkins announced on Thursday, May 8, that the agency will shift from an enforcement-focused regulatory approach to one prioritizing clarity on how federal securities laws apply to digital assets. Following a memorandum of understanding signed with the CFTC, Atkins stated the SEC will first focus on clarifying the applicability of securities regulations in the crypto sector. “While this interpretation provides long-needed clarity, this is just a beginning, not an endpoint,” Atkins said at the Legal Practice Institute.
