Ship Traffic Through Oman Coastal Lane in Strait of Hormuz Plunges; Iran Reinforces Control

According to Kpler data, on Sunday (July 5), ship traffic through the Oman coastal lane in the Strait of Hormuz plunged following a surge in vessel turnarounds the previous day. Between Friday and Saturday, at least eight vessels suddenly reversed course while transiting the Oman route, with four subsequently diverting to Iran-designated lanes. On Saturday, only 19 vessels transited the strait in both directions, with just one publicly declaring intent to use the Oman coastal lane for entry, compared to 13 vessels using that route on Friday. Iran has repeatedly insisted that vessels may only transit the strait via Iranian-authorized channels. Several tankers have since attempted to proceed, with some broadcasting position reports while others transited without broadcasting.
