U.S. Republicans and Democrats Introduce Bill for Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in Treasury

On May 21, U.S. lawmakers Nick Begich (Republican) and Jared Golden (Democratic) introduced the American Reserve Modernization Act (ARMA) to establish a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve under the U.S. Department of Treasury. The bill mandates a minimum 20-year holding period for the reserve, which will consolidate bitcoins acquired by the federal government through seizure, forfeiture, and penalties. Other digital assets will be managed separately. The legislation also requires federal agencies to report unified holdings and implement proof-of-reserve reporting to ensure transparency in reserve operations.
