According to Decrypt, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway sued Bitcoin ATM operator CoinFlip, alleging it "knowingly facilitated fraudulent transactions." The lawsuit seeks $1.83 million in penalties and a ban on CoinFlip's operations in the state.

CoinFlip denied the allegations as "baseless" and called for authorities to investigate actual criminals instead. The case reflects heightened state-level scrutiny of Bitcoin ATMs over elder fraud concerns; FBI data showed cryptocurrency scam losses reached $389 million in 2025.
